Oct. 17 2020 Kayak Paddle on the Whippany River

Published by webmaster on

On a beautiful autumn day, the Whippany River Watershed Action Committee (WRWAC) hosted a delightful kayak trip up and down the Whippany River. Paddlers joined at 10am on this brisk, yet sunny Saturday morning. The colors of fall were peaking all around Speedwell Lake and the river provided the kayakers with a spectacular views.

The WRWAC worked hard to obtain special permission from the Town of Morristown to conduct this kayak paddle at Morristown’s historic Speedwell Lake. Speedwell Lake is one of Morristown’s iconic sites with a long history and a beautiful environment enjoyed by local community. Morris County’s Patriots Path is a very popular multi-use trail which runs parallel to this stretch of the Whippany River. It’s rare for people to see kayakers in Speedwell Lake or along the Whippany River, so the participants at this paddle were like the birds on the lake with on-lookers amazed at the site.

Besides kayakers on the gorgeous Saturday, Speedwell Lake is stocked with trout and rich with bird life. The opportunity to kayak on it in the middle of the leaf-season is special and should be cherished. WRWAC appreciates the continued support of our member towns, like Morristown, to help us in our mission. We also need your help and support, so please consider donating and/or volunteering with the WRWAC so we can help preserve, protect and maintain the is precious watershed together. Come join us!
