Cyanobacterial Harmful Algal Bloom in New Jersey

Published by lgindoff on

At the 2022-11-02 Whippany River Watershed Action Committee (WRWAC) Meeting, David Hsu, Assistant Director, Center for Water Science and Technology, Department of Biology, Montclair State University made a presentation about Cyanobacterial Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) and their impact in New Jersey. Over the past several summers HABs have resulted in the closure and/or reduction in public access and use to several of New Jersey’s prime recreation lakes, including Lake Hopatcong and Greenwood Lake. Montclair State’s Center for Water Science and Technology has been at the forefront of research into this insidious issue and the recorded presentation to the WRWAC provides and excellent overview of the problems and solutions associated with harmful algal blooms.
