Please note – poor conditions may result in event cancellation – Stay Tuned!

The Sheep Hill Astronomical Association began in the mid 1960’s as the Booth Astronomical Association, named after Les Booth, a former Boonton High School principal. Booth taught night classes on astronomy and after he retired, his former students got together with him and formed the organization.

In 1968 they decided to build an observatory on land deeded to the town by prominent resident, George Ross. Through donations of money, materials and labor, the 16-foot diameter steel dome, built by a company in Dover, was set on the building by crane and the observatory was complete in 1973.

A member of the Sheep Hill Astronomical Association will be on hand to facilitate a tour and viewing the night sky. Jupiter will be rising in the West, so we hope to see it!
