Chronolog

Time lapses powered by citizen science

Chronolog crowdsources time lapses to tell stories about our environment. Speedwell Lake has a long history and is one of Morris County’s most recognizable landmarks.

WRWAC Is Pioneering with Chronolog

WRWAC is the first in New Jersey to signup and use Chronolog to use the community to help document our vital resource using this crowd-sourcing technology.

1. Find our chronolog.

WRWAC’s first Chronolog, WRW-101, is located at Speedwell Lake, Morristown, NJ. It is along the rock wall facing the dam, the dam-house and waterfall.

Brackets help visitors properly position their smartphones, ensuring that photos added to the time lapse are consistently aligned.

2. Take a Photo and Email It

After taking the photo email it to Chronolog at upload@chronolog.io with the subject line WRW-101.

Chronolog adds every photo to the site’s time lapse, and emails a link with the time lapse to the visitor who sent the picture.

Chronolog’s Mission

Changes in our environment are difficult to see and understand because they happen gradually, but long term monitoring projects are expensive and complex. The chronolog project solves this problem by connecting communities with land stewards to create crowd-sourced time lapses of important natural areas.

Chronolog’s mission is twofold: First, to engage people with nature in an interactive new way. Second, to keep a record of phenological change for scientific use. By making environmental conservation a collaborative activity, people become interested in participating and compelled by the findings.
