Michael Wynne has more than forty years of experience in design, construction, startup, operation and management of Wastewater Treatment and Collection facilities.  He has been Executive Director at Hanover Sewerage Authority since June 1, 1987.   Prior to this, he worked for consulting firms in Hawaii and New Jersey.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer in New Jersey.  He served on the NJDEP Pretreatment Task Force during the 1990’s and on the Board of Directors of the Passaic River Basin Alliance.  Mr. Wynne is a member of the Water Environment Federation and the New Jersey Water Environment Association.

As Executive Director of the Hanover Sewerage Authority, Mr. Wynne is ultimately responsible for the operation and maintenance of the collection system and treatment plant in accordance with Federal and State requirements. The Authority’s treatment plant is currently rated at 4.61 mgd and meets Level 4 requirements plus de-chlorination and phosphorus removal.  The collection system consists of approximately 90 miles of gravity sewer with more than 2,200 manholes. The Authority has been delegated the responsibility for implementing an Industrial Pretreatment Program. 

The Authority operating record includes a current period of more than 32 years without an exceedance of an effluent limitation.  In 2020 the Authority has received a NACWA Platinum Award recognizing 31 years of compliance and a second Gold Excellence in Management Award. The Authority was recognized as a Utility of the Future Today in 2017. The New Jersey Association of Environmental Authorities has recognized the Authority with Best Management Practices Awards for its history of compliance, employee evaluation and merit pay system and collection system life extension program.
