2023-03-18 Whippany River Cleanup In Morristown a Huge Success!

Published by webmaster on

The annual Morristown Whippany River litter cleanup was a tremendous success again in 2023. This annual river cleanup has been happening over 10 years now and bring together many forces of the community in an effort to clean up the year’s worth of accumulated litter along the Whippany River.

The WRWAC joined forces with the AME Bethel Church of Morristown to conduct the cleanup. Over 100 participants from area churches, scouting groups, environmental clubs, schools and just interested folks came together to collect approximately 500 bags of litter collected along the banks of the Whippany River from the Pocahontas Lake dam along Patriots path all the way downstream across Bishop Nazrey Way up to the railroad crossing; both sides of the river.

AME Betel Church’s Pastor Williams and Morristown Mayor Dougherty greeting and thanked all the volunteers at the beginning of the event. Members of Trout Unlimited donned their waders and got into the water to pull out some of the more difficult to access items. Morristown DPW helped out hauling away the many truck loads of collected debris. The Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority’s Clean Communities Program provided gloves, pickers and bags. While it is a shame there is so much litter, it was a blessing that there are so many people willing to help out and clean up the mess.
